Week #775 & #776

December 14th (technically week #774) was the original incorporation date for Optional Slf. That makes the company 15 years old this week. In 02021, we restructured the company to an Ehf instead of Slf. so our ID number reset giving us another “birthday” on May 4th 02021.

Week #775

The flu continues to go around the office. Productivity was below normal levels, but we did manage to accomplish a few tasks.

The Australian concreters were having some issues with the software we built to help them manage projects. It turns out their changed the name of the company in Xero. As we tried to authenticate, we checked to make sure the company name matched, and when it didn’t everything failed. It’s an easy fix, but took a bit to find since it wasn’t a coding error, per se.

To get a jump start on our spring surveys, we also took some time to clean-up the old instances. We updated the code, cleaned the database, incremented the year and generally prepped for the spring.

For on project we’ve been working on, we changed the focus a bit. Currently, you can navigate by sessions and by topic, but after some exploration, we also needed to navigate by presenter. That actually takes priority over topic. We updated our API, moved some menus around and pushed some updates. Along with that, we also added in the functionality to bookmark sessions and presenters. The UI needs some love, but atleast all the APIs are in place.

For another project, we started a few years ago, to move fast, we created duplicate versions of the app. It is the same shell, just slightly different database connections. This week we are starting to collapse those down to just two apps, a staging version and production. We want the web admin tool to manage the staging database changes which can be viewed in the staging app. When things are approved, they can be migrated over to the production app. We did this manually this week, but the next big milestones are to automate this (with everything we learnt) and activate the permissions layer and login that we’ve built. That isn’t so much a technical issue, but a coördination task to make sure no one feels like they got the rug pulled out from under them when they can’t login or need help, or can’t find the new app.

Wek #776

We decided to go tools down this week and enjoy the holidays.

Bric-à-brac

December 21st was the Winter Solstice. In Reykjavik, Iceland we had 4h07m07s of daylight, the shortest day of the year. Sunsight was 11:22 and Sunclipse: 15:29.

Happy Boxing Day. (I think we’ve used this same image for nearly 20 years to celebrate. Here’s to 20 more!)
