Week #138

The number 138 again brings us into space. The 138 Tolosa asteroid is a small rocky body in the main asteroid belt. Discovered in 1874 and named after Toulouse, France. The number 138 is also shared with a comet 138P/Shoemaker–Levy. This comet last made its appearance mid-02012. In the vernacular, the number 138 can also reference living in anonymity. The classic Misfits song “We are 138” and George Lucas’ 01971 film THX-1138 both reference this life-style. In subsequent George Lucas films he works in the number 1138, from cell numbers in Star Wars to notes in Indiana Jones, but we’ll leave that until week 1138.

This week also starts the fourth quarter: 02013Q4. We have a new contest to give-a-way a 24ways book. This is a great book with 24 articles all about web design and development. We’re also prepping to send out the Q3 newsletter, so if you aren’t on the mailing list, now is a great time to sign-up.

The Reykjavik International Film Fest is still on going. We saw two more films since last week. These included Moo Man (02013), a story about a small dairy farmer in the UK and the love for his cows. The other film was Expedition to the end of the world (02013), the story of a mis-match of folks travelling to the north of Greenland to explore, photograph and philosophise life.

On the projects front, the first month of school ended so it was all hands on deck to crunch some numbers and adapt to the changes we’ve made in skólapúlsinn this year and then get these new values copied over to skólavogin. Everything went smoothly and we should be set for the rest of this school year now. From here on out it is general running and maintenance. Small fixes and improvements are planned, but we know how to deal with testing and staging. This month consisted of changes to the survey, which needed real results before the calculations could be analysed and performed.

Projects for the City of Reykjavik have been handed off. They are launching a new website in the very near future and we supplied a small calendaring stop-gap solution.

The Green Marine Technology project is also moving forward. Our contact has relocated to Berlin, but that’s barely even been a bump keeping the project moving forward.

Internally, we have a few projects making head-way. We’ve gotten a reply from Althingi, The Icelandic Parliament, that all their laws and proceedings do not have any copyrights. This is great news and means we can move forward without risk of a lawsuit. The only issue is that we asked for a Citation about Icelandic Laws being copyright free and are still waiting on a response.

Finally, our Analog project is so close to seeing the light of day that everyone is getting excited. We’re hoping for launch early next week. So stay tuned.
